How I’m unlocking more airdrop allocations with this mindset shift
If you want more luck in airdrops, you have to take more shots.
There’s no guarantee of airdrops anymore, and solely relying on onchain actions is killing our chances of good airdrops.
To increase our chances of high allocations, we have to increase our luck surface area and cover all bases.
Here’s the exact strategy that I’m using:
Luck can be engineered
We get lucky in relationships by “putting ourselves out there”.
This is the famous advice for finding a significant other.
No matter how good-looking or how awesome a person you are:
No one knows that you exist unless you’re actively meeting people.
The same thing applies to airdrops, where we get nothing if we sit around and wait for airdrops to come to us.
And here’s how we do it:
Cover all bases where possible
Airdrops no longer reward users just for their onchain activity.
Likely because onchain metrics can be easily gamed by spinning up multiple wallets.
Now, other contributions are being awarded too (sometimes even more than onchain).
The social aspect is growing in prominence all thanks to InfoFi, and it’s the new meta we’re in.
We don’t know for sure what contributions the project would find valuable:
So we cover all bases to increase our luck surface area.
Instead of relying on just social or onchain:
We do both to increase our exposure for the airdrop.
And that’s the whole formula for luck surface area too:
Luck = Saying X Doing
You have the authority because you’ve actually done the work.
You have the reach because people trust you.
And you’ve built up a network of ‘smart followers’ that could give you a life-changing opportunity.
Many don’t want to start because they feel cringe when shilling projects.
But there’s nothing to be ashamed of if you’re doing this:
Say what you did onchain
Too many are talking about projects on the leaderboard without even interacting with them.
Others can tell that you’re just a dopamine yapper and would eventually mute you.
So here’s the easiest way to talk about a project:
Say how you interacted with them onchain.
No one can doubt that you did it because there’s proof that you did.
Some would complain that they hate yapping for airdrops.
But there’s no need to yap mindlessly.
Instead, treat it like a journal to your former self.
Write to him/her and tell them how to achieve what you did in a shorter amount of time.
I started out as a complete nobody, but eventually built up my presence to where it is now.
And you become more skilled when this happens:
You learn more by doing
You could sit around and read tons of airdrop guides.
But you will learn so much more by trying things out yourself and documenting your lessons.
Some projects may have a minimum amount, but you could just start small with most, build capital, and share your experiences with most projects.
Somewhere out there, someone is looking for the information you provide to get started on their journey.
And you’ll eventually build trust with them because you helped them out along the way.
Take the shot, even if it means failure
I’m not saying that I’m the best, because I’ve had many failures too.
But sharing these failures makes you more human too:
You don’t seem like this all-knowing perfect person who wins every single time.
Those who portray that image are just trying to make themselves look good and lose that connection.
It’s perfectly fine to make mistakes.
Yes, someone will mock you for it.
But, so what?
They’re a complete stranger who likely hasn’t done anything in their life, so why are we listening to them?
We focus too much on the negativity (I’m guilty of this too) when there are others who value your insights.
So instead of being ‘just another account’:
Look to be authentically yourself while doing tasks onchain and sharing what you did.
The cost of inaction is too high
There’s no point sitting on the fence for airdrops:
Either you take action, or skip it completely.
Onchain alone is not good enough, so we need to supplement it by sharing what we did on Twitter.
Airdrops will go to high-value individuals with a strong onchain and social reputation.
So to increase your luck surface area:
Take deliberate actions to expand it by saying what you did onchain.
If you are tired of mindless grinding for airdrops, build a reputation that compounds (instead of burning out), and earn rewards just by being yourself:
